30/10/24
Kick off started at 6:30, with team bibs having the first kick of the game. Strong start from team bibs but then they went AWOL for the remainder of the 1st half. Team bibs starting strong with Mark being the captain and reading the game well to get the goals we needed. Scoring the first goal was Ben with a tap in from the assist of Mariana. Marcus quickly equalised getting the game to 1-1.
With rush goal keepers - Ben let 2 in from a great and strong shot from Jon, quickly followed by Marcus, with the ball coming at the speed of lighting. Mariana showcased incredible skill, nutmegging two players (Marcus and Jon) in quick succession to break through the defence but it didn’t go her way as it went out of play with a great save from the goalkeeper Gary.
Still in the first half there was a clash between Mandy and Luke where the power of the kick went straight to his nose nearly making a trip to A&E. He quickly recovered but Mandy was not willing to back down with the strong defence. We had great runs from Alexandra and Gary on the wing to create opportunities from the goal scorers. Leaving the score at 8-4 to the non-bibs at half time.
After a quick water break a strong come back in the 2nd half by the bibs team, with Marcus swapping to the side for Alexandra, but still not enough to overcome the significant lead from team non bibs.
Alexandra made some great saves for the non-bibs in goal, saving strong shots from Ben, Marcus and Mariana. Gary and James running down the wings when James popped two in the back of the goal. After the swap of goalies, Alexandra making those passes in the box for a great header but no luck in the box. Mandy shooting off the wing with natural speed and power on the ball. After a great tackle from James on Ben – Ben fell over and James slowly fell over him too.
With the non bibs slowly creeping up, Jon beat the offside trap to coolly slot past Luke in the bibs goal, before James pulled off a slow motion wonder save from Mariana's feet, 6 inches off the goal line.
Mandy stole the show with strong passing and two stunning goals, while team bibs went full defence mode.
Overall, a good physical game but still remaining good natured and lots of banter. The match kept the staff on the edge of their seats coming to the office on a Thursday morning, proving why this 5v5 is one for the history books.
A nice cool down in the pub after, with Marcus buying the drinks out of his winnings from Ben foolishly declaring he would score more than him (Ben finished the game on net zero goals, with one for the bibs and a stunning own goal...)
