Mesmerising molten metal and more - SLX Group's 5th annual conference

SLX Group held its fifth annual corporate event at Champneys Henlow in Bedfordshire, bringing together employees from across its incorporated companies and representatives from its international operations.

Earlier this month, SLX Group hosted its annual conference at Champneys Henlow in Bedfordshire.  The event welcomed employees from Simplex Turbulo, STW Engineering and Clements Marine, alongside business representatives from Dubai, Poland, Spain and Singapore.

Champneys Henlow was chosen for its proximity to Clements Marine, giving the wider group an opportunity to visit the premises of their newest colleagues following the acquisition in January.

The morning featured presentations and live demonstrations showcasing the capabilities and expertise behind Clements Marine’s work.  Divided into small groups, guests toured the foundry, propeller shop and workshop, following each stage in the manufacture of marine propulsion equipment.

From glowing molten metal being poured to propeller grinding and balancing, and the machining of brackets, rudders and other components, Clements Marine’s team captivated their audience. The demonstrations offered a fascinating insight into their skills and experience.  During both the tour and informal conversations throughout the day, the team’s pride, passion and professionalism were evident to colleagues from across the group.

After a few hours of free time in the afternoon, everyone reconvened at Champneys Henlow for drinks and a seated dinner.  Colleagues from across the companies were mixed among the tables, encouraging new connections and further networking between people who rarely have the opportunity to work together.

During the evening, the owners spoke about SLX Group’s current structure, recent promotions and the retirement of a long-standing supplier’s account manager. Formal presentations also recognised colleagues who had reached significant milestones:

  • Lorraine Darling-Hymers, celebrating 20 years at Simplex Turbulo supporting the marine fields engineers' team;
  • Michael Major, marking 25 years at Clements Marine managing the workshop and now General Manager; and
  • Kate Pullen, commemorating 25 years with SLX Group, who in charge of HR and has earned the apt title of "Head of Happy".

This year’s conference was another memorable occasion for everyone at SLX Group.  Although the mesmerising glow of molten metal was an undoubted highlight, the day also offered something even more valuable: the chance to meet colleagues from across the business, learn about their work and get to know the people behind the products and services.  Their dedication and expertise continue to drive the group’s success.
